ASTM D244 (Emulsified Asphalt) Changes
February 3, 2010: ASTM D244 (Particle Charge) has been replaced by ASTM D7402, and ASTM D244 (Saybolt Viscosity) has been replaced by ASTM D7496. Affected laboratories should request the new test methods for their next AMRL on-site assessment, and applicable quality management system documentation should be revised to reflect any changes. AMRL will make appropriate revisions to AAP accreditation listings after laboratories are assessed for the new standards and upon adequate resolution of applicable nonconformities noted in the assessment report.

New AMRL Scope Added: Sprayed Fire-Resistive Materials
AMRL is pleased to announce the addition of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Materials (SFRM) to the scope of our laboratory assessment and AASHTO accreditation programs. Laboratories may now request an evaluation of the following test methods during their on-site assessment:
ASTM E605 – Thickness and Density of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Materials
ASTM E736 – Cohesion/Adhesion of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Materials
Laboratories may additionally seek accreditation for ASTM E329 – Agencies Engaged in Construction Testing and/or Inspection as it pertains to SFRM testing. To request an on-site assessment, please click here. If your laboratory has already requested an assessment for the current tour and is interested in adding SFRM to your scope, it is not necessary to submit another request form. You may request the evaluation from your assessor during the opening meeting of your scheduled on-site visit.
Fees: No basic fee will be charged for SFRM testing, unless it is the only scope performed during the on-site assessment. A fee of $140 will apply for each test method performed (E605 and E736).

New Test Methods Added to AMRL Scope
The following standards have recently been added to the scope of our laboratory assessment and AASHTO accreditation programs. Laboratories can now request these test methods to be included in the scope of their next AMRL on-site assessment and subsequent accreditation activities.
May 14, 2009: ASTM D2950 (Density of Bituminous Concrete by Nuclear Methods) ASTM D4972 (pH of Soils) ASTM D4829 (Expansion Index of Soils) ASTM D7000 (Sweep Test of Bituminous Emulsion Surface Treatment Samples) ASTM D7370 (Relative Density of Aggregate by Vacuum Saturation and Rapid Submersion) ASTM D7428 (Micro-Deval Abrasion of Fine Aggregate)
February 23, 2009: ASTM D2974 (Moisture, Ash, and Organic Matter of Peat and Other Organic Soils) ASTM D4943 (Shrinkage Factors of Soils by the Wax Method)

ASTM D427 (Shrinkage Factors) - Inactive Standard
February 9, 2009: ASTM D427 "Shrinkage Factors of Soils by the Mercury Method" is no longer an active ASTM standard, and AMRL has discontinued providing on-site assessments for that method. AMRL will continue to provide assessments for the AASHTO version of the test method, AASHTO T92. In addition, we have added a similar ASTM test to our scope, ASTM D4943 "Shrinkage Factors of Soils by the Wax Method". These changes are effective immediately. AASHTO accreditation for ASTM D427 will be withdrawn for the affected laboratories subsequent to their next AMRL on-site assessment.
